In Memoriam

This page is lovingly dedicated to guests of 'Ohana Pet Paradise who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.  Perhaps the hardest part about having a boarding facility is becoming deeply attached to our guests and watching them age.  While we know we are only blessed with them in our lives for a short time, it is still hard to see them leave us and not be part of our lives anymore.

Though no longer here on earth, they are always in our hearts and will forever be a loving part of our extended family.  We count it a blessing to have known each and every one.

Goodbye sweet Chivers!

When we first met Chivers, he was a recent cancer survivor at the end of treatment.  In a short amount of time, he showed us the feistiness and love of life (and snacks) that helped him bravely battle his disease and temporarily beat it.

While it took Chivers a little longer than his brother, Linus, (see photo below R) to become comfortable with the "home-away-from-home" surroundings, he soon relaxed and enjoyed lying by the window overlooking the garden on his favorite blanket.

One night at supper time, while I was preparing his dinner, Chivers slowly walked over to me, sniffed my forehead, and then gave me my sign of loving acceptance, a gentle head press and nose kiss.  It was the best kiss I'd ever received.

As the next few years passed and his visits with us increased, Chivers added loving purrs along with his head presses and nose kisses, something I really looked forward to receiving.

When his human recently booked a reservation for a long holiday with us, we learned that his cancer had returned, and he might not make it to see us again.  Heartbroken, we kept Chivers in our prayers and hoped against hope to see him on his upcoming  visit, so we could make some final memories with him.

But it wasn't meant to be.  Our sweet Chivers crossed the Rainbow Bridge this week and shed his old cancer-ridden body for a new, healthy one.  And while we will miss him and his gentle head-bumping nose kisses of love, I have no doubt he's now passing out nose kisses to all his new friends.

......Until we meet again sweet one ........
